Most veterinarians are caring and compassionate individuals, well-suited for their profession. There is a minority of veterinarians that place profits before quality care for their patients. Joey’s Legacy has assembled America’s first nationwide network of veterinary experts and animal law attorneys whose mission is to hold practitioners of veterinary medicine accountable for negligence that results in the permanent injuries and deaths of our companion animals.
The expert veterinary team reviews the medical records from the claimant and compiles a letter of opinion regarding the standard of care provided. If negligence or malpractice is determined, the attorney team can pursue the case with the veterinarian. This process generally starts with a demand letter and could proceed to litigation if a settlement is not received.

In 2022, Joey’s Legacy plans to undertake some large animal advocacy projects, including:
- A tell-all documentary, the first of its kind, that will expose some of the more challenging issues that companion animal parents face. This documentary will be produced and directed by 9-time Emmy-award-winning producer and director John Biffar. Help us make this documentary John’s 10th Emmy award.
- A national outdoor advertising campaign that will bring Joey’s mission and message to billboards, bus benches, and shopping malls around the country.
- Construction of a brand-new memorial website that will celebrate the lives of companion animals lost to veterinary negligence and malpractice.
